Home birth is not the right choice for every family. As my schedule allows, I provide doula and monitrice care for people planning hospital births. Like a doula, a monitrice provides continuous labor support. Unlike a doula, a monitrice has additional training to perform clinical assessments during labor.
Doula and monitrice services are good options for the person who wants to labor at home as long as possible and lessen the likelihood of unnecessary hospital interventions.
We’ll discuss your birth desires, answer your questions, and get to know each other during your consultation. Then a plan is customized to provide you with the level of prenatal & postpartum visits you desire. Standard care includes two prenatal and one postpartum visit. Full monitrice services include all your prenatal care, labor support in the hospital and continuing postpartum care for you and your baby back at home.
When you are in labor and decide you’d like support, I will labor with you at home or in the hospital. The additional labor monitoring available to monitrice clients can help time the transition from home to the hospital, where I’ll support you in the doula’s role. I generally stay with you until after your baby is born and has been fed, and you are ready to rest.
